Ms. Copple tried Plickers for quick assessments and she and her kids loved them. The great thing about this tool is that the teacher is the only one that needs a device. It provides immediate information about what the students know and allows the teacher to make adjustments for just in time direct instruction for students that need some support. Students remain engaged in the lesson and the assessment activity.
Plickers www.youtube.com/watch?v=bejiz2HzUz8 Ms. Jordan has jumped right into blended learning by creating some blendspace lessons for her students. She's been using more video instruction in whole group to teach the kids how to watch with a purpose which is a skill they will need when they start to work in stations and explore learning more independently. This is a great way for her to prepare her students for a personalized learning environment. As she moves towards blending her classroom she may explore the tool, edpuzzle, which will allow her to chunk movies into small sections and assess for understanding with multiple choice and short answer assessments. ed puzzle https://edpuzzle.com/ blendspace https://www.tes.com/lessons Have you been thinking of Stations in your Middle School Classroom? Check out these resources for building them... http://www.edutopia.org/blog/learning-centers-in-secondary-classroom-ted-malefyt http://www.ehow.com/how_6607771_set-centers-middle-school-classroom.html Ms. Dennard's classroom is an active learning space. Last week she invited me to visit and I saw students who were fully engaged in learning new vocabulary. She used Quizlet Live to do a vocabulary review. Students were randomly divided into different groups throughout the activity which kept them moving and communicating with different people. This activity supports speaking and listening skills in her Spanish classroom and also promotes the 21st Century skills of Communication and Collaboration. The kids used their own devices to participate and they remained engaged and on topic throughout. After Quizlet Live the vocabulary work continued off line with a challenging, hands on, vocabulary matching activity. Students worked together to complete this activity with Ms. Dennard facilitating and offering just in time direct instruction when needed. quizlet https://quizlet.com/features/live Mr. Bidwell is moving towards his goal of making resources available to his students so they can personalize their learning. He is currently using Edmodo and has connected it to his One Drive so he can easily add documents. But, he wants his kids to be able to access all resources at will so we are looking at Classroom Notebook on Office 365. This way students who want to move ahead are able to do so and students who need a little more support are able to access all resources to help them build knowledge. Office 365 Classroom Notebook is a powerful tool that enables a teacher to provide resources and collaboration space for students. This tool cuts back on paper because students can submit assignments online. Teachers can create a calendar to support organization and students will also be able to contact the teacher using their Office 365 email. Technology tools can be powerful. They can help build communication, critical thinking, collaboration and creativity in the classroom. Technology doesn’t have to create solitary citizens, it can help create global citizens who learn to work together for global solutions. Archives |
